Nutraceutical, a splicing of the words “nutrition” and “pharmaceutical”, was coined in 1989 by Stephen L. DeFelice, founder and chairman of the Foundation of Innovation Medicine. The term is applied to products that range from isolated nutrients, dietary supplements and herbal products, specific diets to processed foods such as cereals, soups, and beverages (Wikipedia). AlgaGen ‘s vision is to identify and produce species of microalgal nutraceuticals to better human and animal health.
One such microalga, cyanobacterium specifically, is Spirulina. This algae has been eaten by man and animals throughout the millennia. There are stories of Incas, Aztecs, indigenous tribes cultivating, sustaining, and utilizing Spirulina in their day-to-day as well as spiritual rituals. We have spent years developing our own strain that has adapted to the sunny, lush, tropical conditions of Florida. We have been producing it under ultra clean conditions since 2011, feeding family and friends. In 2014 we made the decision to open our production up to our community.
